Christopher Downing

Biography:

I am a post graduate researcher based in the School of Earth and Environment at the University of Leeds. I work with Professor Douglas Parker, Dr Andrew Ross and Dr Matthew Clark from the Met Office, researching processes that lead to severe weather embedded within extra tropical cyclones. It is important that these smaller scale processes are understood accurately, as they can often produce damaging and potentially life-threatening weather.

I previously completed an integrated master’s degree in mathematics at the University of Nottingham. I then worked as an acoustic consultant for 2 and a half years until my interest in the environment and weather led me to apply to be a researcher. Outside of work I like to play tennis and squash and watch cricket, darts and my football team Portsmouth.
