Biography
I am a PGR based in the Institute of Climate and Atmospheric Sciences at the University of Leeds, working with Dr Cat Scott and Dr Thomas Sloan, as well as Dr Elizabeth Duncan from the School of Biology. I previously attended the University of Leeds to complete my undergraduate degree in Environmental Science, before attending Newcastle University to complete a research masters in Ecology where I studied saltmarsh restoration.

PhD: Developing Climate Resilient Woodlands in the UK: Insights From Gair Wood
It is increasingly important to understand the mechanisms of woodland management and establishment to sufficiently meet global, national and regional targets to restore landscapes and create woodlands. My PhD project uses Gair Wood as a living laboratory to answer the following research topics:
How does woodland creation method (i.e., planting or natural regeneration) affect initial tree survival and growth rates, soil carbon fluxes and diversity within the rhizosphere (both of bacteria and fungi)?
How does diversity in surrounding tree species affect the success of initial tree establishment, vulnerability to browsing, the microclimate created, and the development of mycorrhizal networks?
