William Amir

Biography:

I am a PGR working in the Earth Surface Science Institute at the University of Leeds, researching how solid Earth processes influence the Earth’s atmosphere; subsequently, I’d like to research surface habitability of terrestrial planets and exoplanets. I use biogeochemical models to perform my research.

Before this PhD I did both my undergrad and master’s degrees at the University of Leeds too (I guess I’m never leaving!). I’ve always loved space and the Search for Life™, hence my Astrophysics undergrad degree and my interest in surface habitability.

In my spare time I am a bodybuilder and a tarot card reader, and I enjoy strategy games, sci-fi novels, and heavy/alt metal (although I do my best dancing to Britney).

Qualifications:

  • BSc Physics with Astrophysics, University of Leeds, 2020-2024;
  • MRes Earth Science, University of Leeds, 2024-2025

Research Interests:

Atmosphere, oxygen, habitability, biogeochemical modelling, solid earth processes.

Project Title:

How did solid Earth processes influence the accumulation of oxygen in our planet’s atmosphere?
